Winter is coming, but we’ve got you covered with these tips!

The weather outside might be frightful but inside you can keep things snug and warm with just a few simple home maintenance steps for winter.

HEAT
The last thing you want when the weather turns cold is to flip the switch to HEAT and find your furnace on strike. Make sure to routinely change your furnace filters, or better yet, sign onto a maintenance agreement and have an annual inspection so you can keep your HVAC system running smooth for a decade or more!

WOOD
Caulk and seal the wood trim around your exterior doors and windows and chip off any flaking paint while you are at it. A quick test to see if your wood deck needs sealing – pour some water on it! If it beads up, you’re good. If not, better throw a coat of sealer on it before the snow hits it.

STONE
Fill-in any cracks on your concreate pavers so ice doesn’t form over the winter and make them worse. Ashphalt driveways may need attention too! Getting to a crack first may save you an expensive fix later on down the road.

WATER
You might want a pool, but not one in your basement! Now’s the time to clean your gutters, check your downspouts and take a peek at your foundation for spots where water is pooling. Don’t forget to turn off your outside hoses too and drain them.

SNOW
Take stock of your shovels and salt situation, make sure to put an ice scraper, a small shovel and some salt/sand in the car for any winter road trips.

And you’re done! Time to light a fire in the fireplace, grab some cocoa and snuggle in for the season.

Happy Winter!
